Green School
The Green Committee’s charter is to Enhance the overall education of the TIS community with values that reflect our commitment to a sustainable and renewable environment.
Thanks to the work of volunteers, TIS is a “Green School” certified by the Oregon Green School Association (OGSA).
Why is it important for TIS to be Green?
- Our children will be better prepared for future education, employment, and community participation.
- TIS will reduce its impact on the environment, save money via waste prevention, smart purchasing, and reduced consumption of energy, natural resources and materials.
The Green School program includes support for the TIS science curriculum, such as an extensive garden curriculum, and student-led classroom composting, recycling and conservation activities.
Green Field Trips
Thanks to considerable volunteer research, we now have extensive, age-appropriate green field trip resources:

The Green Program’s recycling and water conservation programs also save money for the school; our School Supply Savings Program help TIS families save time, money and environmental impact through a central purchasing option.
What can you do to help?
There are many ways you can be involved. Whether your volunteer contribution is large or small, your effort can make a real impact on the education of our children. Maybe you would like to help develop activities or field trips for your child’s classroom? Maybe sponsor a recycling or conservation program for the kids?
Help TIS reduce, reuse and recycle! You can help at home by reinforcing sustainable practices such as reusing paper as art supplies, using reusable containers in your child’s lunch, or using TIS’ printer cartridge & cell phone recycling program.
