Alumni students are always coming back to campus! Our students, teachers and staff find great value in alumni students joining them back on campus in a variety of volunteer positions.
Our Alumni Program includes a wonderful team of alumni students and parents who help us develop programs and activities for their peers. They also assist in engaging our alumni with various opportunities at TIS, including committee participation, philanthropic support, and much more. An informal committee, Alumni Ambassadors provide electronic feedback on programs and activities and have the opportunity to meet quarterly on campus.
Volunteers are at the heart of the success of the Gala. Originally entirely run by volunteers, our staff still heavily relies on volunteers both before and during the event. The Gala has traditionally been a popular social event that Alumni enjoy returning to, and it is the largest fundraising event for TIS, raising over $200,000! Volunteers almost always attend the event in addition to their volunteer tasks, so don't worry if you'd like to do both!
Run For the Arts
Almost every alumni student and family remembers participating in Run For the Arts! A fun jog-a-thon, Run For the Arts provides the entire budget for the art and music departments. Volunteers are crucial in providing day-of help in tracking runners' laps, recording runners' information, and of course, cheering on the runners!
Assist in the award-winning language immersion camps! TIS operates three 2-week summer camp sessions for children of various levels of language comprehension. Alumni volunteers always return to assist in day-to-day camp operations and student activities, speaking Chinese, Japanese or Spanish.
Language Immersion Classroom Volunteers
Volunteer in a homeroom classroom of your track language during the school year. Teachers love having TIS students return to help in the classroom with current students, alumni love the opportunity to use their track language, and current students love seeing and hearing what opportunities the future holds for them when they become TIS graduates! Volunteers may work with students from 3 years old to grade 5.
English/Art/Music/PE Classroom Volunteers
There are occasional opportunities for alumni students to return to assist with TIS specialist classes, including English, art, music and physical education classes. Inquire within to see what is available!
To inquire further about any of the opportunities listed above, please contact Lisa Olivares at LisaO@intlschool.org or 503-226-2496 x116. Depending on age and volunteer duties, volunteers may be asked to submit a volunteer application and pass a background check.
