The second graders are learning about artist Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson. She incorporates memories and history into her artwork. Through her work she expresses the idea of Sankofa, the African concept of learning from the past in order to move forward. She was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship in 2004.
Aminah Robinson uses an array of found objects, buttons, fabric, and sculptural material to create her work. After looking many of Aminah Robinson's pieces the second graders created a fabric collage focused on a specific memory from the past.
