Hello! October is moving right along and so are the 1st grade music classes. Every class has taken some time to collaborate and create our social and behavioral expectations. In addition to coming up with ideas on how to create a safe and fun space, we have been reviewing steady beat and where in our everyday world we can hear steady beat. Students have clapped and patted to clocks, windshield wipers and heart beats. Steady beat has been a great stepping stone into rhythm and reading notation. We have been working on musically notating poems and then reading the rhythms before composing our own. Music class would not be complete without games, singing and instruments so we have been improving our music skills with fun partner games, tag games and hidden object games. These students are amazing young people that I am very excited to work with as they grow into fantastic musicians!
