3/7: Music

Hello and Happy March!

First grade is still working on a unit about listening with not only our ears but our bodies as well. Currently we are listening to the story of "Peter and the Wolf" where characters in the story are represented by orchestral instruments and repeated thematic material.

Our instrument playing is accompanying familiar songs and dances like Doggie, Doggie" and "Oats and Beans and Barley Grow". "Doggie, Doggie" was a really entertaining activity where students performed a dance, played instruments and practiced what an active audience looks like during a performance.

Singing voices are used throughout the class and some of our most recent songs are "My Hat It Has Three Corners, Down by the Bay" and "Apples, Peaches, Pears and Plumbs". This later song has a jumping game that accompanies it and after playing the game the children then broke down the song and wrote out the pitches and note values in musical notation. That is a glimpse into our recent activities. Have a great day!
