Music News from Martha - 4/18

This month in LowK music class we learned two new music games, “Pony Trot” and “Bell Horses.” Both of these games involve moving around the room and provide practice in performing the beat. Collaborating with their Unit of Inquiry about creativity, we pretended to be butterflies hatching out (with scarf props) then flying around the garden. The music changes drastically when the hatching out is complete so they really have to listen to know when it’s time to “fly!” We are working on performing the beat, which is a necessary skill that needs to be established before other rhythm learning can take place. Recent books we have used in a musical way include Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?, The Lady With The Alligator Purse and No Sleep For The Sheep.
