Kindergarteners have been learning about Matisse and how difficult it is for an artist not to be able to pick up a pencil or paintbrush to make art. Towards the end of his life, Matisse was diagnosed with severe arthritis. By then, he was a world renowned artist. However, instead of refusing commissions, he made a change in his own artwork- collages of cut out papers glued onto canvas. These past weeks, students worked hard on their cutting skills, adding shape upon shape and color upon color to make their artworks.
