5/14/2014: Music

I hope you are all doing well. I cannot believe that this year is coming to a close. It has been so much fun.

Kinder recently had a visiting artist which was only possible because of Run for the Arts, the children’s hard work and your amazing contributions. Pamela Norris worked specifically on movement and collaboration. We had fun making shapes with our bodies, responding to drums and working together to create a fun and safe atmosphere.

Our lessons lately have involved scarf dances and being able to follow the tempo of a song. We have been singing a fun song from New Zealand called "Epo I Tai Tai E". We learned some hand motions to this song that then translated nicely into playing instruments. We have also been working on a British tune called "Lemonade". Students play a game with this song that works on dramatic play.

As previously mentioned we have been playing instruments with the song "Epo I Tai Tai E" and yet, we have also been using instruments in our book Pete the Cat: The Wheels on the Bus and a game that we call “High, Middle, Low” where students play the xylophone and have to respond based off of which pitch they hear. I am so pleased with how hard the students have been working. Thank you for the privilege to work your children. They are wonderful!
