Hello! I hope ya’ll had a good Spring Break. LowK is working a lot on steady beat.
We have been playing “Acka Backa Soda Cracker” with beanbags as well as taking turns leading the game “I Can Keep a Steady Beat.” Lately, our musical phrase work has been walking around the room while chanting “Cobbler, Cobbler Mend My Shoe” and at the end of each phrase, the triangle sounds and all students change directions.
We are working on instrumental accompaniment with a rhythmic poem called “Here I Come.” The students recite the poem and play their instruments on specific words. This poem also teaches students about instrumental families and playing on beat. Some of our singing has included songs like, “Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush,” “Starlight, Starbright” and “Engine, Engine Number 9.”
Students are also working on the difference between singing and speaking with pieces such as, “Baa, Baa Black Sheep,” or our book Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. Time is flying and I am so proud of all the students for their hard work and enthusiasm.
