Giving Overview - The International School

Philanthropy Overview

The generous support of families and friends has made The International School the center of excellence that it is today. Like most independent schools, TIS depends on the philanthropic support of our community to provide exceptional educational opportunities above and beyond what tuition alone can cover.

Tuition revenue covers most of our day-to-day operational expenses (teacher salaries, utilities, classroom supplies, field trips). Philanthropic contributions keep the school healthy and stable by offsetting some of those costs. Contributions also enable us to fund new programmatic initiatives, make critical campus improvements, and provide our teachers and students with exciting educational opportunities not covered by tuition.

We ask every family to consider making a philanthropic gift in support of our students and teachers in a way that is meaningful for them. We hold three annual giving opportunities: our Global Citizens Fund (annual fund), annual Auction Gala, and Run For the Arts.  Each opportunity is described below in detail. The proceeds from each of these fundraisers directly support our teachers and students in every classroom, every day.

Outside of these annual fundraisers, we also seek gifts that propel our students and school to new heights by supporting visionary projects like major campus enhancements, scholarship endowment funds and special projects. We welcome you to contact us about becoming involved in any of these opportunities.  Contributions to The International School are tax-deductible as long as no goods or services are received in exchange. The International School is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Our tax ID number is 94-3126167.

Please feel free to contact our Development Team with any questions - our door is always open!

Global Citizen Fund  September 2016 - May 2017

The Global Citizen Fund is our annual fund - an ongoing fundraising effort that helps our school operate at its best.  The Global Citizen Fund provides crucial resources to supplement our operating budget, and directly benefits our students and teachers.  While funds can be restricted to a particular area of support, they are often diverted to the area of greatest need.  We strive for 100% participation from our TIS community to the annual Global Citizen Fund - no gift is too small!  Gifts made to the Global Citizen Fund are tax-deductible and count towards the 100% participation goal.

Auction Gala  Saturday, February 4, 2017

The school's largest fundraising event, and a fun social evening!  The Gala includes an Alumni Reception (21 and over), silent and live auction, a full sit-down dinner and time to socialize with friends.  The auction Special Appeal - a paddle raise during the live auction portion of the evening - funds specific priorities for the upcoming year as designated by the Head of School.  Past Special Appeals have funded furniture for our newest building, iPads and Chromebooks, Smart Boards, and professional development opportunities among others.  Gifts made to the Special Appeal are tax-deductible.

Run For the Arts  Spring 2017

Occurring at both the main and Early Childhood campus sites, this fun jog-a-thon encourages students to secure pledges and raise funds for our amazing art and music programs!  Last year RFA earned over $25,000 for these classes, helping to fund items such as teacher collaboration conferences, musical instruments, art supplies and more.  Gifts made to Run For the Arts are tracked through Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington.  Tax receipts for Run For the Arts may be obtained through that organization.

  • Endowment Gifts - A gift to the general endowment fund supports TIS' long-term growth by helping to keep the school financially stable. Special-purpose endowment funds support specific projects and provide student financial aid. Contact Development Director, Lauren Riegelnegg at to learn more.
  • Matching Gifts- Many employers match their employee’s charitable gifts to qualified non-profits. This is a wonderful way to maximize your donation to TIS. Check with your company’s human resource department to determine if you have a matching gifts program.
  • Vehicle Donations- The TIS community can donate used cars, motorcycles, trucks, boats, motor homes, and aircraft to benefit our school. Contact Development Director, Lauren Reigelnegg at
