PTO Notes

Transportation Update

  • Thank you to all the parents in the community who attended the open house last Tuesday and sent letters to the Portland Office of Transportation. I know many of you received the response from Art Pearce, project manager, about the current projects under evaluation through the North Macadam Transportation Strategy. The PTO is currently scheduling a more targeted discussion of our transportation options with Mr. Pearce, hopefully at our next PTO meeting on November 12th.  See ITK's News & Information section for Mr. Pearce's response and other relevant documents.

Sally Foster

  • Please remember that Sally Foster orders are due by October 17th. All monies raised (50% of sales) are used to offset the costs of Capstone 5th grade academic trips abroad. Remember all TIS classes receive a percentage of the profits.

  • Testimonial's.... “I have had the opportunity to purchase Sally Foster gift wrap on several occasions during my tenure at TIS and have never been disappointed. The quality of the paper is first rate and they always have a multitude of selections”.....P. Prince, parent

“I look forward to the Sally Foster fund raiser every year. The paper is a good quality and the rolls are much longer than those you buy in the store. I always get my holiday paper through Sally Foster and buy rolls for all those birthday parties throughout the year.”...J. Francis, parent

"Our first year at TIS I ordered Sally Foster products because I felt like it was something I should do to support the school. But the quality of the wrapping paper turned out to be much better than I expected. Now I order from Sally Foster every year because I want to, not because I feel like it's something that I should do."......S. Marcus, parent

Run For The Arts

  • Thank you to Joan Francis for all of her hard work in organizing this annual event. I believe a good time was had by all the kids and volunteers. Run for the Arts is a national event coordinated by Young Audiences. TIS has been participating for many years and with the funds earned through pledges has been able to purchase many of the items that your children use regularly ( art kiln, stage, keyboards, Cobb structure, and sound system).

Auction

  • Tickets are on-sale now on-line for our annual TIS Auction, being held at Montgomery Park on November 8th. I strongly encourage you to attend if possible as this is a fun way to meet new people whether you are a new or a returning parent and it is a great way to support TIS. This event is the school’s largest fund raiser, contributing to the school’s operating budget, as well as to the financial aid that 25% of our students receive.

  • The procurement team could use more donations so please keep them in mind as we begin the countdown to the Big Event......only 27 days left!

Many of you may be wondering why we have so many fund raisers that occur simultaneously during the months of October and November. Sally Foster has been a long standing fund raiser for TIS and because most of the sales generated are from holiday wrap it is only offered during the holiday season.
The Run for the Arts was moved to the fall a few years back due to better weather and to avoid overlap with capstone trips.

Our annual Auction, which was traditionally held during the spring months, was successful but needed an added boost. By the time spring rolled around many businesses had been solicited for donations by many other non profits in the vicinity and since the spring is the “season of auctions” many parents were burnt out on attending another one. The auction committee had often discussed moving the date up to the fall but this would require much work during the summer months and a shorter time to procure items since many committee members are traveling during the summer and spending time with their families. Mark Jones and Kate Schweitzer (1st time chairperson's at the time) decided to set a fall date in 2007 and it was our most successful auction to date; raising $235,000.

We appreciate how much work it is on the parents part since it doesn't give much time to complete the auction project and classroom basket but look at the bright side....it's all finished by November so you can relax and enjoy the rest of the school year.

Please feel free to contact me or any other PTO officer with questions and/or feedback.
