New iMacs Looking for Good Keyboarders

Typing class used to be a popular "business' class in high school, as some of us may remember. In the 21st century, however, our students need to be independent and competent users of technology at a much younger age and keyboarding skills are essential to this end. In the library media center, the students will be using the new iMacs to search the library catalog, to conduct research, write papers, record book reviews in the form of podcasts or screencasts and much more. Good keyboarding skills make each of these experiences more fun and productive.

Students will be practicing keyboarding skills during library classes throughout the year. There are several free online courses which provide fun, interactive instruction for children. Parents are urged to encourage their children to practice these skills at home. Links to sites are posted on the library media center webpage on the TIS website (Parent Resources section).
