Special appeal update

In this season of Thanksgiving, we are grateful to our community members who so generously invest both money and time to support the mission and vision of our school. The greatest gift you give to the school is the opportunity to teach your child. As our students stated in the auction video, Thank You, Gracias, 谢谢, and ありがとう.

As you read in Jennifer Cooperman's post, the evening of the auction we just missed our goal of raising $60,000. We can still make it! Here is how:

  • If you made a donation and work for a company (Intel, Nike etc.) that matches gifts, please consider applying for a matching gift to increase the impact of your donation.

  • If you were not able to attend the auction, you still have the opportunity to join over 100 members of our community who supported the appeal.

  • If you have family members who want to support your child's education, please let them know about the success of the appeal and how close we are to our goal.

Please go to www.intlschool.com/giving/auction/ to make an online donation or send a check made out to “The International School” with "special appeal" in the comments to Development Office, 025 SW Sherman Street, Portland, OR 97201.

Contributions to the special appeal allow us to create an even more vibrant learning experience for our students filled with Books, Learning Resources, and Technology. Here is how our students will benefit from your generosity:

  • BOOKS: When students learn through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB-PYP), they start by asking questions. Your gift helps give our students the resources to find answers to their questions through age-appropriate research, reading and collaboration. We will purchase non-fiction books, maps, DVDs and CDs for each of the 44 units of inquiry with materials in each target language.

  • LEARNING RESOURCES: Thanks to you, we will purchase high quality learning resources specially selected to meet the themes and needs of every class from prek through fifth grade allowing our teachers to bring lessons to life and make learning even more interactive and fun.

  • TECHNOLOGY: Your gift will bring technology into classrooms to teach children skills for research, writing, collaborating, communicating, and target language typing. We will purchase at least 45 computers with a goal of having a 1 to 4 child/computer ratio in grades 1-5.

We will provide updates to our community on the special appeal in future issues of In the Know and in the Annual Report for you to see the impact of your gifts.
