Things that make you go hmmm (Annual Giving)

Is the 2009-2010 Annual Giving a competition?
Absolutely not! The reason I publish participation by class is to break down our goal of 100% parent and faculty/staff participation into smaller, more manageable goals. This method is also very effective. Since we began publishing classroom rates at the end of April in In the Know and on classroom doors, we have received 127 donations and increased overall participation from 40% to 68%.

Congratulations to the classes that have reached 100% so far: Ann, Qiong, Pilar, Shirleen, Jennifer, Helen, and Sandy. Several more classes are very close to the goal. Classes that reach 100% by May 31 will get a certificate for their homeroom teacher.

Rather than publish class participation rates this week, here is another comparison:
Faculty/staff  participation: 72%
Overall parent participation: 68%

Have you noticed that there has been no mention of total funds raised?

Our goal with Annual Giving is to encourage as many members of our community as possible to participate every year (both while they are here and after they graduate).  This is in contrast to the Auction Special Appeal where we have a specific monetary goal, this year it was to purchase a goal amount of books, learning resources and technology.

How are Annual Giving donations used?
Annual Giving goes to support our general operating budget – 66% of which pays for staff salaries and benefits – thus our theme of honoring teachers through Annual Giving. It also helps us make up the difference between the actual cost of educating a student at TIS versus the cost of tuition, while providing substantial financial aid. In the 2009-2010 school year, the gap is $2,350 per student.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the 2009-2010 Annual Giving campaign. It is not too late to participate!
