TIS LIbrary SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW Reading Challenge

(for elementary students)

THE CHALLENGE

This year the students will read classic books paired with modern books related by subject or theme. Students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 will choose three pairs to read. Students in Grades 4 and 5 will choose four pairs. All students will create artistic book responses to one pair of books which will be displayed at a one-day Gallery of Reading in the gym. Artistic response ideas for each pair of books are in the lists below.

Students should read the books on their own or with parental help. Please no audiobooks for this challenge, although a read-along is fine.
