Whooping cough coming our way

The Oregon Health Department highly recommends a pertussis booster for adults and children before the cold weather hits. The incubation period is 2 weeks and kids can be contagious for another 3 weeks after they feel well, during which time (3 or more weeks) they would have to be excluded from school. It's also a major health risk for the elderly and infants. Click here for more info; click here for a flier. For even more information, please call your doctor.

Many of our kids will be current because the DTap is required by state law for kids. But there is a window between when the child is eligible to receive the booster and when it is required. In this case the sooner the better. Maybe even more importantly the parents can be carriers because DTap boosters haven't been recommended for adults until the last couple of years.
