Have a little free time on campus? Relax a bit in TIS' new "Urban Island." Our gardening team has been hard at work creating a natural, self-sustaining habitat that will manage itself throughout the seasons; in time, we will only serve as observers. The garden will consist of only native species duplicating Coast Range, Willamette Valley and the Cascades regions.
Our Urban Island will attract a variety of fauna. So far this summer, the garden has been visited by cabbage butterflies, one swallow tail, and clouded sulfur butterflies. We have access pathways for viewing, and an open area that will have seating.
It is our hope that the garden will become a quiet, colorful place to reflect and unwind. Come visit it on SW Caruthers Street, behind Stearns Hall!
