New Specialist Profile: Sarah Harpole

TIS is happy to announce that our long-time art substitute teacher, Sarah Harpole, is now a full-time member of our faculty! Sarah will be teaching our 2nd – 5th grade students.  Sarah received her BA in Art and with a minor in Art History from the University of Oregon in Eugene. She has an MA in Art Education from Pacific University in Oregon. Sarah has been teaching since 2007 and first joined TIS as a substitute in 2013.

Sarah says:

“Growing up I knew I wanted to be an Art Teacher. While in high school, I was lucky to have an amazing, fun, dynamic and creative Art Teacher who also taught me the importance of making sure your students know you care about them and believe in their ability to do great things. I’m blessed to have the amazing job of encouraging young people to find their own way of expressing themselves through visual arts. I value the importance of teaching students to try their best, to be helpful and to be kind to others. One of my favorite things about being a teacher is to see kids experience pride in creating something with their hands and their hearts.

I grew up in Albany, Oregon and have had the chance to appreciate the outdoors by camping, fishing and hiking with my family. My husband and I still enjoy getting outdoors with our giant Chocolate Lab, Brutus. Some of my hobbies include painting, photography, cross-stitch, pottery, cooking and gardening. I am looking forward to being a part of the TIS community for the long-term! Please feel free always to stop by the Art Room to see what we are creating or just to say hi!”
