New Teacher Profile: Deanna Sundberg

TIS welcomes back Deanna Sundberg! Deanna will be a long-term Art substitute with us while Carolina Barros is on maternity leave.  Prior to moving to Portland in 2013, Deanna was in Barcelona, Spain for ten years. While there, she was responsible for creating an original and engaging art-based curriculum and taught a creative English immersion program using hands-on arts and crafts activities. She continues to do work for Cartus Intercultural and Language Solutions here in Portland, where she provides language support for young children ages 4-7 in private homes with an emphasis on arts and crafts, games and imaginative play.  Deanna received her BA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Montana.

Deanna’s hobbies include traveling, dancing, swimming in rivers, and learning to play the guitar. She treasures spending time with her 2.5 year old daughter and Italian husband. She cultivates a love of travel and culture within her own little international family! Deanna says: “I'm so excited to join the TIS community. I bring a love of art exploration and an appreciation of cultural diversity. The staff have been so welcoming and I know this will be a very special and dynamic place to teach.”
