New Teacher Profile: Denise Ackerman

TIS welcomes back Denise Ackerman! Denise will be a long-term English substitute with us while Lara Fowdy-Drouhard is on maternity leave. Denise has taught for nine years in the public elementary schools in First through Fifth Grade. While doing this, she has also had the opportunity to work with a variety of students with learning difficulties and disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and behavior challenges.  This experience enabled Denise to develop the ability to be sensitive to each student’s unique capabilities, provide individual attention and support, and to collaborate with co-workers and specialists to cultivate a supportive and successful learning environment. Denise received her BA from Western Oregon University and her Masters in Teaching at George Fox University.

Denise’s hobbies are reading, art and crafting, cooking, Pinteresting, and caring for her Chihuahua, Roxy Carmela. She is excited to work at TIS utilizing her newly acquired knowledge of the IB/PYP program; she loves the central premise of working with the "Whole" child while also incorporating the language arts, social sciences, art & music, and foreign languages. Denise is so happy and grateful to be back as a part of the TIS community!
