Like most small businesses, Sweetpea started as a hobby, with hours spent baking and tweaking and taste testing at home. At the urging of friends, TIS parent Lisa Higgins began to sell her baked goods to local Portland stores, and Sweetpea became a retail bakery in January of 2008.
Offering breakfast, daily homemade soups, sandwiches, bagels, and a full range of pastries, Sweetpea's spacious cafe is the perfect place to watch baristas and bakers show off their passion.
Sweetpea focuses on quality vegan baked goods that will rival any counterpart. No animals need be harmed to make a delicious moist cake, a soft doughnut, or a flaky scone. With organic ingredients, seasonal local produce, and a business model to compost 80% of waste, Sweetpea Baking Co. is a diamond in the rough. Check them out at www.sweetpeabaking.com, or at their wonderful location at 1205 SE Stark St.
Many thanks to Sweetpea Baking Co. for their Silver level auction sponorship this year!
