The TIS English Buddies Program (formerly the Parent Mentoring Program) matches committed parent volunteers with individual students whom English teachers would like to provide with extra help. One-on-one mentoring sessions take place outside of the English classroom but during the school day. The child’s English teacher sets the curriculum, but the session between the parent and child is a cross between tutoring and mentoring.
- Needs no special qualifications other than an interest in working one-on-one with a student
- Is open to learning techniques for working with children who may have learning differences
- Can commit to working with a student for half an hour a week on a regular schedule
