Beyond TIS
International School graduates successfully go on to attend public and private middle and high schools around Oregon and beyond. Knowing that families and students choose middle schools for a variety of reasons, we are working with Portland-area middle schools to help them understand our students’ needs specifically for advanced language options.
Today there are both private and public middle schools that offer advanced language classes and social studies taught in our target languages. Although there are no full language immersion middle schools in the Portland area, the existing programs will enable International School graduates to keep up and grow their language skills and/or to learn a third language. As time goes on and we graduate more students each year, the middle school options will improve and grow.
We are also working closely with other language schools in the area to create The International High School of Portland. The goal is to offer core curriculum subjects in the target language. Families who may be interested in the international high school should choose a middle school that will allow their child to continue advancing his or her language skills.
