Beverly Cleary Reading Challenge 2010
The International School Library Media Center is sponsoring its second annual Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award Challenge. Help choose the winner of the 2010 Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award (BCCCA).
The Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award is an annual book award sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in honor of Oregon’s own children’s book author, Beverly Cleary. The purpose of this award is to encourage reading by highlighting good quality literature (fiction and nonfiction) written between second and fourth grade reading levels, taking into account text, format and the illustrations of the books. This contest will encourage books that students may not otherwise find on their own and are not necessarily the popular best sellers. Readers may participate in voting for the 2010 winner by reading at least two of the six books nominated.
TIS students who read, or are read to, all six (6) books nominated for the award will meet the challenge! (Audiobooks are fine too.) These students will be honored for their achievement with a certificate and an invitation to an ice cream reception and carnival in the gym on April 15, 2010.
Multiple copies of the books will be available in the school library for checkout. Of course, these books are sure to be available at your local public library or your favorite book store as well. These books will be in high demand so please plan ahead. Copies of many favorite Beverly Cleary novels will be on display in the library during the BCCCA Challenge. Students who would like a challenge beyond the 6 nominated titles are invited to read from Beverly Cleary’s collection of books. Contact me for more information.
The challenge runs from January 4 through April 9, 2010. Students who wish to participate must turn in completed Progress Tracker forms by April 08, 2010. Students will vote for their favorite book during library class no later than April 9, 2010.
Please contact Tamara if you have any questions.
Happy Reading!
