EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM: 3-5 yr old
Early Childhood Education is a unique experience at ISP. Children get the attention they deserve in small classes, and are surrounded by warm, encouraging staff who help them thrive as individuals and work together to succeed
ELEMENTARY PROGRAM: Grades 1 through 5
International School of Portland provides an engaging and challenging academic program, taught primarily through language immersion in Japanese, Mandarin, or Spanish. Students develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills as they learn language and subject content.
TRUE IMMERSION
Words, facts, numbers – give them to a child in isolation, and they mostly go “in one ear and out the other”. Like the rest of us, children learn best when they have context and interest in the subject at hand. That is why true immersion is so important.
CELEBRATED IB WORLD PROGRAM
ISP has been an authorized International Baccalaureate World School since March 2010. Through this concept-driven process, students gain deep content understanding while learning the skills to acquire, organize, and communicate knowledge. It is those skills that enable children to become independent learners, capable of pursuing knowledge beyond the classroom and throughout life.

Why Families Love ISP
Here's what some current parents have to say!
The school culture of inclusiveness and inquiry learning is aligned to our own values. We appreciate the individual attention we get from administrators and teachers—our student never feels like just another student.
An important part of our parenting is bringing up a child who is a world citizen and Portland had felt challenging until we found ISP. We love the international focus and awareness.
We love the class sizes! We also love that everyone, from the teachers to the administrators, are all so warm and approachable. I know I am sending my kids into a classroom full of encouragement and empathy and fun learning, and free from stress and judgment.
Quality International Baccalaureate education through 5th Grade plus solid fluency in a second language for an American kid!?! That's a great foundation supporting the school's and parents' goal to make the kids Citizens of the World!
We really appreciate the IB program as it teaches the children to question things as opposed to just absorb content.
We love the immersion program. This coupled with the way the teachers instill the love of learning and excitement in children makes it the best choice for early childhood education in Portland. I have been impressed with my child’s Kindergarten experience and the high quality of instruction that is taking place. I love the mix of playfulness and learning in the classroom.
